Allotment growing on the telly
A new television series that will follow a group of rookie gardeners as they learn how to grow their own food on an allotment will be introduced by the Green Party’s Minister for Food and Horticulture, Trevor Sargent tomorrow..
The first episode will be at 8.30pm on RTE1 tomorrow evening (Tue 21 April 2009) Corrigan’s City Farm will follow 24 volunteers as they strive to transform a plot of derelict wasteland in Cork into a lush and fertile smallholding.
It will highlight and compliment the Green Parties ‘Get Ireland Growing’ campaign.
Get Ireland Growing has been set up to encourage food growing at home and in the community.
The campaign website – has received nearly 2,500 visitors since the launch on 29 March 2009.
The site will soon host a competition for food growers to win trowels, forks, mugs and t-shirts in exchange for stories and photos.
Trevor regularly posts video updates from his kitchen garden

I did not think too much of the Corrigan’s City Farm programme. Not original and all done before by Hugh fernley whathisface. That allotment.ie site although still very new has potential though. nicely laid out and some good articles. I am enjoying your blog Ian, any chance of coming up over to wexford and sorting out my vegetable patch
Thanks for the info Ian. Love reading your posts.
