Make your own face paint this Halloweeen

October 30th, 2009 by GreenMe  (View Author Profile)

halloween-pic1Further to our recent news piece on toxic face paints on the market, we thought it best to dig out a homemade recipe that can put your mind at ease, as well as create a really fun thing to do with your children.

What you need:

  • Egg carton
  • Bowl
  • Cold Cream (I used the old fashioned ponds variety)
  • Corn flour
  • Food colouring – as many shades as you can lay your hands on

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine about a half a cup of cold cream with two tablespoons of corn flour.
  2. Continue to add corn flour, until the mixture is the texture you want for your face paint.
  3. Scoop the mixture into each egg compartment individually, leaving it about halfway full to prevent the colours from mixing.
  4. Add the food colouring until the colors are twice as dark as you want them to look like when painted on the face.

Et voila… Happy painting!!

Fair Play, this is great especially in light of the the revelations regarding the inclusion of toxic lead in commercially available products-Its also cheaper and of course greener and definitely more fun!!!

I tried this at the weekend-it worked a treat and the only thing I din’t have in the house was the cold cream, which doesn’t break the bank, the great thing is that the kids loved making it too, so it is a win win situation-I’m going to pass on the recipe to all my friends, thanks you greenme
