Dragons got it wrong

November 30th, 2009 by GreenMe  (View Author Profile)

dragons1Last year, battered and bruised, the GreenMe crew waited with nervous anticipation for the airing of episode 5 of Dragon’s Den.  We knew our experience on front of the 5 fiery Dragon’s had been anything but ideal.  However, what happened after the broadcasting was the start of a chain of events that has led to GreenMe becoming Ireland’s leading green lifestyle site.

The Dragon’s apparent issue with the market, our concept, the need for a trusted green directory and their obvious dislike at the idea of sharing the limelight with Duncan all led to an overwhelming positive reaction from the public.  The support was tremendous and resulted in a meteoric traffic rise and end user sign up.

Almost one year on we have thankfully and most definitely proven the Dragons wrong.

This year saw GreenMe being invited to be the Green Media partner for 2 of Ireland’s most prestigious environmental trade shows; SelfBuild and The Sustainable Building Show – proof positive that GreenMe is seen as the definitive, trusted resource when choosing a trusted green product, service or company.

During the summer we ran a very successful marketing campaign, where we travelled the country with the 2fm roadcaster on the quest to find Ireland’s 1st Eco Superhero – Ethical Paddy.

In September this year we were invited to appear with Ethical Paddy at Electric Picnic to bring along our no preaching style of green to the greenest fesival in Europe.  And earlier this month Citi Group asked us exhibit at their annual Eco Expo – Ireland’s big success story in terms of leading companies demonstrating corporate social responsibililty and successful energy management.

So yes we are still here.  And yes we have been busy, really busy!  And yes we have continued to grow and give good, honest advice on choosing greener products, service and companies.  We also continue to do our best to be entertaining and informative and never preachy.

Am I sounding a little smug. Perhaps I am – it just feels good to be sitting here watching the re-runs of Dragons Den knowing that despite the Dragon’s doubts we have proved them wrong.

Just goes to show that the Dragons don’t always pick the winners!
